The interstitial Special
I’ve always loved the interstitial, the sweet in-between place of structures, concepts, processes, places, ideas, and objects. The interstice is usually defined as and conceived of as small and unseen, such as the horizontal area located between building floors, or the microscopic space found between blood vessels and cells.
However small and hidden the interstice may be, it is far from powerless. While not rigidly structured or contained, it is logical and highly functional. Indeed, the interstice gives strength and shape to the the structures and forms both inside and outside it.
The interstice is in and around both matter and its form. It is not just located in physical space, but also in a cerebral one. The interstice is quantum and therefore can truly be found everywhere and nowhere, in both inner and outer space.
In short, interstitial interspace is quite a party
It is malleable
It is uncharted
It is active
It is fluid
It is smart
It is creative
It is fun
It is here
It is there
It is everywhere
(It can even be found in the brain! The Reticular Activation System is a mental interstice.)
